Re: Remove or Miniaturize Circuit Networks

I understand your point, but I think there are explanations for why the tech in Factorio is so strange. First, there is no sillicon processing in game. miniturised electronics work only through semicondictors, which appear to be non-existant in factorio*. I imagine that the circuitry in Factorio is ...

Re: Poll: Should belts use energy (and Offshore Pumps etc...)

Is hardcore/expert mode the right term? The logistical challenge of powering belts and offshore pumps would actually be minute, relative to the rest of the game, and would just need new burner entities. A better term would be simultation mode, because you are only making it more realistic, by having...

Re: Conveyor belts optional using electricity

I have an idea. Belts will always be next to a drill or inserter, right? Since the amount of energy that the belts would actually require would be minute, as mentioned earlier, would it be reasonable to have the belts siphon some power, or be mechanically driven by, another entity that they are plac...

Re: [MOD 0.12.26] Laser Beam Turret

This is not working for me... the laser turrets still shoot and kill the biters but there is no visible beam and no sound I've tried: factorio version 0.12.26 with laser beam turret 0.1.4, 0.1.3, laser beam turret simple 0.1.4 factorio version 0.12.27 with laser beam turret 0.1.4 at first I had some...

Re: Discussing the (missing?) 4th type of transport!

I haven't read through this whole thread because it's 16 pages long. But the best ideas I've seen: A fast VTOL aircraft. Harrier jump-jet for example, has a top speed of somthing like 1000 kph, which is much faster than trains. At that speed I think it could cover 500 chunks in less than a minute (c...

Re: So, are aliens intelligent anyway?

Perhaps the biters can be something like this: each nest (by which I mean cluster of spawners + worms) is actually a single intelligent organism based underground. Spawners and worms are actually part of the nest entity's body. The biters and spitters are themselves dumb insects, but follow orders ...

Re: Conveyor belts optional using electricity

As a new player, I would have complained about it too. There's an inherent logical discontinuity on the idea that: 1) to set up a functioning electrical network, you need belts and water pumps 2) for belts and water pumps to work, you need a functioning electrical network. That discontinuity in the ...

Re: Conveyor belts optional using electricity

If electricity was required to make belts work, the learning curve would be a lot more difficult. The learning curve already includes learning to provide everything with power. I don't see why a new player would be stumped by the idea of providing conveyer belts with power if they're able to wrap t...

Re: Conveyor belts optional using electricity

In other words, it's entirely reasonable to assume that the belts are powered by built-in solar panels and have tiny batteries (or flywheels) to manage the night, given the level of power produced by the 9m^2 solar panels. Perhaps the belts generate their own electricity by using thermoelectric pad...

Not a bug no, just a quirk of the map generation I've never seen it like this though, that's hilarious  Having started... probably at least a hundred maps, with various settings, I've deduced that it doesn't do any checks to stop the center of the map, where you begin, from being water. All it ...

Re: About the endgame - kinda frustrating today

I have not reached the endgame yet actually, because like you said, it doesn't seem like a worthy goal. Still, I've played dozens of hours at this game, playing it as if the point was just to survive. I think when I want to, I will imagine that launching a rocket lets me escape the planet and go hom...

Re: Electric energy

Space is the largest consideration. Back when I was a Field Engineer for GE, I worked on one of the largest solar farms in the world. Over 500 MW of generation takes up a ridiculous amount of space. Around 8 square miles if I remember correctly. I haven't taken the time to do the math if it is mode...
