Re: Version 0.17.60

OK, I know nothing about developpement - I play, write & teach music - but I know for sure when I'm facing someone passionate about his work, and what I read here makes me a little bit mad. Everyone complaining about being ignored should read those 4 posts : https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopi...

Re: Version 0.17.60

I'll just mention that the only real use for light oil was making efficient solid fuel previously. How much of it did you really spend for flamethrower?

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

What I'd like to know is why all the 2-output proposals fell through. As of last notice there were 2 options that didn't seem to conflict with any of the devs' ideas/principles, petroleum+light and petroleum+heavy, and we know that the petroleum+heavy one was being tested (which I found interesting...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

As 17.60 is out sigh of disappointment Jeez, this V is just so special... Look even what version of his pointless two-weeks iterations he finally decided to put into the release! I am fairly shocked how much human-hours and brainwork vent in vain. "Built-in flare-stack is out of the question&q...

Re: Version 0.17.60

As you can see, the FFF305 changes are the solution we have found to be the best. Please give it a try, and give it some time to see what the impacts will be. In the FFF305 forum thread, you wrote that you considered and tested other options. Are these still relevant, meaning sometime in the future...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I notice you do realize that the issue with oil is resource sinks. However, I think you're over estimating the ability of solid fuel to be a sink. Until you get to end game, even science packs are not a sufficient resource sink to make it a tool for balancing consumption. The balance of oil is enti...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

But is dealing with two outputs really that much easier than dealing with all three? It's certainly simpler and from design perspective more predictable. For example chemical science pack could require a ratio that BOP would not have to deadlock with, but with the original this can only be overesti...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

The idea of Heavy only and adding cracking is nice, quite functional and quite sensible, but a double-step cracking just to get the gas seems to be wtf tedious as you need to put vast majority of heavy into gas that way. This is only true if you MUST have red chips in the blue science recipe. Why n...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

To what degree the multiple outputs are to be present or not could be a variable depending on the specifics of the solution IMO. The FFF changes are removing the multiple outputs completely, and only reintroduces them when a good long-term solution exists (with AOP and cracking), but as you have see...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

So, I tried implementing the Heavy + Petroleum gas BOP. Option 1: Solid fuel in Chemical science pack, Sulfur made from PG - "don't make me produce SF inefficiently" people will hate. I don't find it to be a huge deal though, and it would be completely clear that AOP unlocks more efficient...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

This would require keeping solid fuel in chemical science pack as a use for light oil. Wait a minute; is solid fuel in the chemical science pack being viewed as a problem now? If so, why (assuming light oil is available)? I thought it made a lot of sense (per its original justification when introdu...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

It was based off last week’s changes but adding a heavy+light only recipe unlockable in logistic science. This process had petroleum gas as an input which would make sure the most basic one has to be done first, and this process was completely optional - the player could skip it and go to AOP direc...

I really want to and will give the PG+HO more thought, but I'm not very optimistic.

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Flare stacks are absolutely out of the question for the ultimate dumbing down reasons, just take FFF-305 version and image a flare stack next to the refinery / the one integrated in the refinery to be burning the heavy and light oil. Flare stack is much better than you solution because: * Result is...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

At the point of BOP I would suggest making at least 2 products in the refinery and give 2 clear purposes for them. For example make it LO and PG and change Sulfur to be made from LO only. So your max possibe sulfur is limited by plastic consumption? A similar effect can occur with other solutions b...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I can't help but think the FFF-305 proposal seems to have most benefit and least severe disadvantages from all the things I've read in the last 9 days. The biggest downsides are "new player might have to rebuild" which I think is highly questionnable; a new player might only have a few ref...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

you'd need lots of sulfur, you'd end up with excess petroleum if you use AOP or BOP or even Coal Liquefaction. EDIT: the other risk is if you want to produce a lot of accumulator, you'd need to consume the PG somehow. This is a big deal, and the response I gave to why there are so many things in PG...
