?!? it's working now....

Thanks for the report.
Your computer ran out of memory. For 0.16.1 I changed limit for parallel loading of high resolution sprites to 12 GB RAM to reduce chance of this happening.

The same error occurs with 16GB RAM here: 54539 FYI.

Here is my log, I have 32GB of memory and run into this same issue.
Re: [16.0] Sprite cropping of "hr-artillery-wagon-base-10.png" failed
I reopen this, be it only for reassessment.

This issue still (randomly) occurs in 0.16.1 (I have 12GB of RAM - Windows 10 uses 2GB).
Wouldn't it be possible to dynamically calculate the RAM limit at runtime (depending on how much RAM is free when Factorio starts) instead of setting a constant value in the source code?

The amount of RAM needed depends on your graphics settings, loaded mods, and size of all of the images - which isn't known until it's too late and you're already loading them. The best it could do is exit with a better error.mensinda wrote:This issue still (randomly) occurs in 0.16.1 (I have 12GB of RAM - Windows 10 uses 2GB).

As we keep adding more graphics to the game with more high-res sprites the memory and video memory requirements keep going up. Because computers have no good way to tell us how much VRAM and RAM they have we have to do these things and "best-guess".
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

This may be fixed for the next version of 0.16. If not please let us know once it's out.

Is there a way to turn off high res sprites before I start the game? I got this error message on a 12GB system with 16.1, even if I exit all other applications.

Nevermind, found the config file.
