[English] Numbering of Tiers of entities

I realized that assembling machines are the only entities which have an explicit "1" on the first tier. Neither modules nor any military equipment has an explicit "1" or "MK1" attached to them. Is that intended? It is difficult to reconstruct whether these conventions have been different in the past.
