Minimal server package?

I am running a dedicated server for friends on a virtual server that i can access via ssh.
It is, however, not possible to download the game packages from there.
I can log into factorio.com just fine but the download links are created in some sort of evil way that abviously no command line web browser supports(tried elinks, lynx and edbrowse).
So, all i can do is download to my local machine and then upload it to the server. This of course takes a while as my upload connection speed is just 1 MBit/s.
It would be really helpful to either get a minimalized server package without the graphics and sounds as they aren't needed on a headless server or at least provide means to download the package directly from the server.
This would make many things much easier for me and possibly many others
