Hi,
I just updated from 0.12.35 to 0.13.1 and noticed that smart inserters have been removed and replaced with filter inserters. I can't find this change anywhere in the change logs. Is there any functional differences between the two? Can filter inserters still be connected to circuit and logistic networks?
Differences between smart inserter and filter inserter?
Re: Differences between smart inserter and filter inserter?
Just answered my own question
In the changelog for 0.13.1 (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=27101) it says all types of inserters can be controlled by circuit and logistic networks so the filter inserter just contains the filtering mechanics of the smart inserter.

Pre-0.13, the Smart Inserter was the only inserter to have a filter and connectable to the circuit/robot network. It had the speed of a Fast Inserter.
0.13, the Filter Inserter is exactly the same thing, only this time every inserter has circuit and robot network access. And a snazzy purple color.

Smart inserter without filters set should be replaced with fast inserter
Smart inserter with filters set should be replaced with filter inserter.
Smart inserter could operate without filter if it was controlled by network.

Ignoring reduced stack size
Filter inserter will not operate if no filter is set.Smart inserter could operate without filter if it was controlled by network.

Moved from General to Gameplay Help.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Re: Differences between smart inserter and filter inserter?
When connected to a circuit network filter and smart inserters will behave differently.
Fast inserter will activate whenever the set condition is true, whereas filter inserter will activate when the condition is true AND the filter is set.
I'm still shaking my head over this "feature" as it managed to break my factory .
I think that a better way implementing a filter would have been to activate the inserter on the signal type = true ( i.e. steel >0, pickup steel etc).

I think that it is funny how the burner inserter can be connected to the circuit network, because it is not electric.
Re: Differences between smart inserter and filter inserter?
Why? Just because you have access to electricity does not necessarily mean you are completely done using coal. You could use this feature to enable or disable steam power engines by using the circuit network to activate burner inserters that feed the boilers. The Eriksonn wrote:I think that it is funny how the burner inserter can be connected to the circuit network, because it is not electric.

Just thought it was funny since it feels like the circuit box on the inserter has some computerchips and that they need electricity.
