Expand past the initial area.
Ensure your belts feeding your furnaces are balanced and have a high enough throughput.
Ensure that you research and begin using railroads before you get low on resources.

Not sure what point of the game your at, but first make sure you have enough miners. Each electric miner can provide enough ore for 2 stone furnaces to work full time, and enough for 1 (or 1.5, don't remember) steel/electric furnaces. If your simply just out of ore from where your mining it, well then go get more. :p
