So I just have my first space stations...yaaay. I use an inserter to pickup an item (e.g. iron ore) from a crusher. The inserter has no destination to put it - there is space platform on its output - and when I now remove the inserter, the ore stays on the space platform. When I right-click the ore (to pickup) the item just vanishes, it doesn't show up in the space-storage.
I'm okay, if this is intended and u can loose items this way... but I would really love to see this animated or something... cauze ATM im just super confused what happened to that piece of ore. Or am I missing something?
Can you loose items to space?

Re: Can you loose items to space?
Other weird thing is, when I click left-icon on the output iron ore of a crusher, it goes straight into storage...why/how? I understand that the space platform itself is an electricity grid... but is it a transportation grid too?
Sorry, I don't wanna complain, but I loved that these details/interactions were all carefully worked out in the base game on Nauvis.

Re: Can you loose items to space?
From what I have seen, the platform acts like a construction bot that is always touching every item. For example, it also auto-repairs buildings with only repair packs in inventory. Moving to storage is what a construction bot would do if you used the remote view "ghost cursor" on a planet, too.
That doesn't explain the completely vanishing items, though; if it were exactly like a construction bot then it would put them in the platform inventory.

I've noticed this as well. It may be a bug?

Re: Can you loose items to space?
As far as I know, while using the destruction planner or right click, only buildings are saved.
If you want to keep "loose" items, you must first load them back into the space platform hub.
One exception is that if your storage is full. All overflow items are not sent to the planet, instead they are destroyed.
