maximise difficulty and attacks without sacrificing speed?

Hi, some time ago i tried rampant enemies, turned up the difficulty settings and ended up with a ups of 10-15...so many nests that i could bounce from one side of the map to the other without touching the ground, when i fired the rocket i had over a million kills
Id rather have 10 strong biters then 1000 weak, perhaps not so many nests and frequent attacks.


The question is how to maximise difficulty without sacrificing speed?
