Rail Planner Toggle?
Rail Planner Toggle?
Is it possible to toggle the rail planner? Holding shift down results in a lot of hand pain (not to mention being unable to rotate the ghost rails clockwise, though maybe that's a my-keybinds-thing), so placing long rails is difficult to do.

I think if you try to place rail (or anything) while zoomed in on the map, it places them as ghosts instead of trying to build them. You could also make some blueprints for long sections of rails with signals, or for intersections. Blueprints always place as ghosts, so those could help you too.

Yeah this is all very helpful! I always have a blueprint book I use for placing the bulk of my rail network. It works really well on Nauvis, where there is generally a lot of open space for that kind of chunk-aligned rails.AileTheAlien wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 5:25 pm I think if you try to place rail (or anything) while zoomed in on the map, it places them as ghosts instead of trying to build them. I'm running into issues on the new planets -- specifically Fulgora and Vulcanus -- where I'm not quite in the position to commit to a fully blueprinted grid based rail system that would have to go hard on elevated rails because of the fluid boundaries. Love being able to plop down a few lengths of meandering rail, flipping between rail levels as needed.
Building that sort of bespoke rail system is much easier using the rail planner because I can peek ahead to see what kind of pathing might be needed.
I've used my mouse macros in the past to emulate holding shift, but that causes other awkward issues.
