The item is placed by the yellow top inserter on the right side of the vertical belt - according to the idea I copy from

it must be on the left - what am I doing wrong?

I think the placement method of the inserter is always on the right side or in the farthest side if the belt is perpendicular to it.

You can do that to have it placed in the left side :

Or place another belt like this to have every Gear on the left :

Thank you - your hint helped a layman (me) a bit.
Anyhow I ask the specialists to try out the provided link and determine if the given solution is workable - it would be a (if it would really work) excellent Bonsai method to acquire on minimal footprint red, green, blue science - I could not do it. Anyone could?

I think the problem is that the video is from an older version (probably 0.11 or 0.10, but definitely before 0.12), and some logic has changed since. Most importantly - belt logic changed quite a bit in 0.12.

I'm not sure, but I think the only solution is to flip the entire build, so it goes to the right instead of to the left.
