I found this really handy for protecting remote territories. Its an automated gun turret that I could check on easly by map view. Green light, full ammo. (400 clips) No light, your still fine, but there's been activity. Red light? Ammo is down by half, better get out there and fill it back up!
Typically I leave the door out of the blueprint and add it in later wherever it works out the best.

2 solar panels is overkill for 3 periodic inserters a couple combinators and a lamp.
You could probably wire up 12 of those stations with one solar panel.

Probably right, never did the math. I put it together and it worked. So I was happy.

Replace the second solar with Programable speaker. Set alarm to low ammo, it calls you when need refil. No need to re-check the light.

Now that's a pretty neat idea.
