0.15.13 errors on start (Mac OS X)

Post by dgw »

System: OS X 10.10.5 (MacBook Pro 13", early 2011)
Factorio: 0.15.13 Steam build

Starting Factorio 0.15.13 on my Windows 7 machine works great!

Trying to play on my MacBook Pro didn't go so well, though. The game starts, and displays the loading window, but at 89% while "Loading sprites", it says an expected error occurs and stalls. Note that I have to force quit the game; it does not close its own window after I acknowledge the error.

See the attached log file.

Reverting to 0.15.12 let me start the game, so there is most likely a breaking change in .13.

Your mac doesn't have sufficient VRAM to load the high quality sprites and is crashing trying to do so.

If you change the sprite quality to normal or medium it should load.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

That would make sense, there is no GPU—only integrated Intel HD graphics. Editing config.ini to set VRAM "low" let 0.15.13 load. I don't get why .12 worked without changing the VRAM setting, but hey—it works.

Sorry for the noise; I thought it was a possible regression given that the earlier build worked.

Cheers!
