PipePictures clarification

The uses for most of the sprites are self-explanatory except for these three:

low_temperature_flow
middle_temperature_flow
high_temperature_flow

In what situation are they drawn? i.e. what combination of fluid temperature in the pipe, or the fluid prototype, are they used? The vanilla sprites are only subtly different so it's difficult to debug.
