Text shadow

How do you add a text shadow (or outline) effect to a label element? I'd like to get more contrast against the game world for a piece of text that is displayed in a transparent frame, like the chat console messages.

Alternatively I could do with a semi-transparent background but I've not been able to figure that out yet.
