Re: How did you discover Factorio?
I think a while back I heard about it on a Minecraft Subreddit. I then remembered it about a year later and bought it and here we are.

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
The game is similar to Minecraft with the "You can do what ever you want" drawing point.
By this analogy you could compare the launching of the rocket to the killing of the Ender Dragon.
If you like Minecraft YOU WILL love this game, at least up to as point.
If you don't like repeating stuff then this game is not for you.

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
Every year our town has a celebration of our (fairly small) town's history.
Some one built a water wheel model where the only motorized part is the pump for the water.
That got me thinking about water wheels and turbines, so I googled 'steam turbine' or something like that at work, expecting to find history. What I found was factorio, which I couldn't look at until I got home.
I figured any game with with a steam engine was probably something I'd like...

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
I actually discovered Factorio when I was searching on google for some Factory simulation game similar to Free Enterprise http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/538/F ... prise.html
Now after visiting the Factorio website, reading the description and looking at the old frailer video I wasn't very enthusiastic as it wasn't what I was looking for. But since there was a demo available for free download I gave it a try. Next day I already bought the game even thou it was in early access. That was all the way back in 2013.
And guess what I don't regret that decision. Unlike many early access games that I have bought Factorio hasn't disappointed me ever.

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
Funny that... I was hunting around for "Games like Dungeon Keeper 2" after EA EA'd that game up beyond all salvation (or in it's case, damnation). Which led to Dwarven Fortress and then to Factorio. Being a bit of a builder nut I gave the demo a go. Bought the game a few hours later via the Factorio site... Best ~E20,- I've spent online thus far.
Re: How did you discover Factorio?
Well, i found it on a warez site and played it some minutes.
Got in love instantly and bought it after founding out it costed only 20€ (0.12)
I must mention, that Steam isn't very good in marketing demo versions to tease customers.

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
Some friend, I don't recall exactly, introduced me during 0.10 or 0.11.
Intermittently stopped playing and got back into it, every other version.

My history with Factorio is the same as my history with Kerbal Space Program and Oxygen Not Included:
I was browsing for some random game of any type, then i saw a Factorio picture.... downloaded it on pirate bay (or another torrent source), played for a few hours... then i bought it on Steam....
Today i have 2016 Hours in Kerbal Space Program, 1288 Hours in Factorio and 1066 in Oxygen Not included....

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
I was perusing YouTube videos on Arumba’s page viewing how to play Endless Legend. Saw his multiplayer videos playing Factorio with AngelBobs and some Pytech. At first the game didn’t strike me as interesting because the downward "looking at the earth" point of view of the game didn’t draw me in. I’m more into 3D and being able rotate in the 3D environment.
None the less, over the course of a few days of watching Arumba’s Endless Legend videos, my curiosity got the better of me and I switched my attention to his Factorio videos. Watching him and 3 others play fascinated me. Then I found Katherine of Sky and after watching her play from layman’s point of view, I purchased the game and the rest is history.
One of best game purchase in my lifetime. Glad I did. Awesome game!

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
Every once in a while I look at games on Steam based on user review scores.
Factorio kept appearing at the top of the list, I usually hesitate when it comes to open-world games with crafting mechanics and survival elements, so it took a bit for me to try out Factorio but I mean... I have a thousand hours and that's mostly only like... maybe 10-20% me just doing nothing, looking at other windows.
Also modding it, something I've never done before, so yeah.
It's basically consuming my life right now and for the past like... half a year or so.

I normally draw, so modding is out of my depth quite a bit. I'm super dense at learning programming and that's frustrating.
I made the dumbest factorio mod ever made: Memebots.

Re: How did you discover Factorio?
i wish i'd found it sooner.
being having every saturday sessions with a friend, on the same map, on minecraft for what i think has been 4 years or more.
often just an excuse to catch up and chat.
i think it was squirrel (UK streamer) that was playing it on twitch and i had a lightbulb moment.
suggested it to my friend and minecraft hasn't been touched since.
