When I open the game I get the loading screen. It gets to "10% Loading Mods", then either says "Unexpected error occurred. You can help us to solve the problem by posting the contents of the log file on the Factorio forums." or crashes my computer.

I would like you to try one thing:

Try to set the max-texture-size in the config in the graphics section to lower values.

Start with 8192 and if it doesn't work lower it to 4096 and 2048.

P.S. There is actually an error, that the value isn't saved in the config file, so it is removed every time Factorio resets, it is fixed for 0.12.7 now.

Just to say this worked for me, using 4096 or 2048 works (I left it at 2048). On an old Mac Pro 2,1 with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT.

Just to say this worked for me, using 4096 or 2048 works (I left it at 2048). On an old Mac Pro 2,1 with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT.
That is great to hear.
bigger number is better for performance, while smaller is safer, but if it works properly with 4096 I would leave it at that.
