[0.11.17][kovarex] crash in d3d flip

Post by dee- »

I'm innocent, I swear!

No, I have no clue what went wrong. I think is was time for an autosave, so it might be an just-about-to-save-crash.

I just got the same crash, but on OS X. I want to upload the report, but I get the error "The extension log is not allowed."

The crash was in the DirectX part of the game, so I have really no idea what could it be. Is it reproducible? Does it happen even when you lower the graphics

I have several times witnessed crashes on "d3d_flip_display". Will post a screenshot of the display settings later, but they're nothing spectacular (no antialiasing etc)
Is there an OGL build? How do the *nix version do it?

OpenGL can be used alternatively, but it is way slower on windows. The question is, if the crash reproduces if you lower the graphics. I would also like to know what is your graphics hardware configuration.

So, let's be honest :)

- SAPPHIRE HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 dual BIOS, reference design
- Accelero Twin Turbo PRO aftermarket cooler (their site does not mention the compatibility but it is to reference cards, example)
- unlocked shaders to 6970 without flashing a 6970 bios or changing the 6950's VRAM driver parameters that a 6970 BIOS would fry
- RBE was used to undervolt the non-3D Powerplay states slightly
- MSI Afterburner with default gpu and mem clocks for OSD, 3D-profile slightly undervolted
- SpeedFan to temperature control the fans
- AMD Catalyst 14.12 ("Omega") as driver (hey, it's stock ;) )

Yeah, yeah, I know what you're about so say :D

Should I create a separate topic with my trace? Because it's impossible that my crash can be traced back to DirectX.

Well, you problem is probably not related at all. The best would be to wait for 0.11.18, where the stack trace on linux/mac is fixed so we can see what actually happened and report it then.

Anything I should try to modify?

Since you have 2GB of ram, it should be sufficient for Factorio, so I'm not really sure what could help. You can try lower value of Video memory usage or Graphics quality as it lowers the VRAM usage, but this is really just a wild guess.

I'm not entirely sure it's related to ingame graphics-settings.

You have 2GB graphics RAM? Damn, I think I only have 512MB.

Then you really need to upgrade for your mod pack :D

When launched it eats up some horrendous amount of graphical memory on high. According to GPU-Z it's about 1.4GB after actually loading a game.

Does it still happen in 0.12.2?

Currently low on free time to play games at all *sigh* But I'll let you know when this bug raises again.

As long as nobody else seems to be affected I'd suggest closing this report, I'll reopen if necessary.

Cheers! :)
