Graphical Issues

Post by NerdyBrit »

Hi,

I updated my graphics driver today and since then Factorio is now unplayable.

I'm running a Nvidia 1070 and my driver is 348.49.

Please see the images attached for an idea of what i am getting.

I deleted the game and reinstalled, still no joy.

Any ideas?

That is unfortunate. I'll try to test with the new nVidia driver later.

Try this: open Factorio properties in Steam and set launch options to

Code: Select all

--force-opengl
EDIT:
Preferred workaround is to set launch option

Code: Select all

--max-texture-size=16384

I just want to confirm that I have the same issue. Updated to version 378.49 of the nVidia driver and have the same graphical problems. Also using a GTX 1070. Before updating drivers Factorio was working fine (I fact I had played this morning.) The suggested fix worked as well though I had to change the config.ini file in the config folder since I am not using steam.

The game is also unplayable for me after updating my drivers today. Running 2 Titan X Pascal in SLI. The game was fine earlier today before updating my drivers.

Switching to OpenGL as suggested works around the issue for me also. However, now the game goes black for a second every time I switch between it and other applications (which it never did with DirextX).

There's definitely a problem with the NVidia drivers. I recommend you downgrade until they resolve the issue.

After some testing launch option

Code: Select all

--max-texture-size=16384
also fixes the issue. DirectX now reports maximum supported texture size to be 32768x32768 pixels on GTX 1000 series and sprite that we put to atlas of this size end up black. Interestingly OpenGL works with texture of this size without any problems.

Thanks for looking into this. Setting the max texture size to 16384 does resolve the issue for me, and the game seems to run more smoothly on DirectX than it does on OpenGL. Since I am not seeing any noticeable quality or performance issues with this texture size limit, I think I would rather stick with this than go through the trouble of rolling back my drivers (assuming I don't run into more issues with the new drivers).
