Re: Space Age OS Support

Post by gorbag »

gorbag wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 12:31 pm According to https://factorio.com/buy-space-age the support for MacOS appears to be limited to Mojave and High Sierra.

I hope it's going to support more modern versions than those releases... which date back to 2018 and 2017 respectively!
Looks like someone updated it. Thanks!

Release preperations

Post by Hopscotch1337 »

Hey Engineers,

I am planing of getting one or two days off for the start of Space Age.
This only makes sense when the game will be released in the morning. Do we have any information when on Monday the game will be released?

The embargo was lifted on 12:00 UTC. My guess it'll be the same for the release.

Do stationary space stations encounter asteroids or just loose ressource chunks? I.e. will i need defense on my space science station? =)

Depends on what planet your platform stays at. Take a look at factoriopedia and it will tell you about the expected asteroids for a planets orbit.
Nauvis orbit only has resource chunks, so no damage to platforms ever.

thank you very much.
So i guess a high output space science platform needs to be brought/build in a asteroid rich orbit.
Is there a limit on how many space stations one can have per orbit?

If you need more asteroid chunks either for space science or for a mining platform you'll get more resources by flying between 2 locations rather than just staying in orbit around the same spot.
There is no imposed limit on how many space platforms you can have.

space age mena price?

Post by CaLVuS »

i've been waiting for your new plugin with great excitement for a very long time, but steam has switched to dollar exchange rate for Turkey and everything is expensive for us. Will there be local pricing for us, and how much will it cost. I want to find out because according to him, I need to raise money, thank you.

I just saw the system requirements are Windows 10 or 11, presumably because of Steam requirements. I am currenty running the standalone exe on Windows 7. Will the expansion still work?

Good code works everywhere - and Factorio is implemented using exceptionally good code.
If you're running 1.1.x just fine here and now - chances are VERY high that expansion will work well as well.
Of course don't expect to receive official customer support.
Danjen wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 6:16 pmpresumably because of Steam requirements.
Because OS manufacturer themselves discontinued any support on Jan. 14, 2020 . And pre-DLC versions can be rolled back and forth if, by any chance, there is a dire need in Win7 version.
If you're not into bloatware (ergo, no Win10+), consider Ubuntu. Became viable gaming platform now #thanksgaben #gloriouseggroll #wineisnotadrink . NVidia GPU owners still need to jump through extra hoops tho...

4GB > 8GB RAM minimal requirement is more concerning...

Re: Space Age general Questions: language options?

Will the languages in the main game be in the DLC pack as well? I saw that it was not in Turkish. It was in the main game. Will it be added?

Continuing an old save with Space Age is possible but not recommended as it breaks the intended progression.

Continuing an old save in 2.0 but without the Space Age content (which you can do easily even if you buy the DLC) should be fine, though you may need to adjust a few parts of your factory for things like the removal of Rocket Control Units.

If all else fails you can have multiple versions of Factorio installed at once (e.g. 2.0 and 1.1). On windows, downloading the Zip versions from the site is the easiest way to do that.

I think recipe breaks when migrating from 1.1 to base 2.0 is only one of the issues you would face. You would have trouble working on a rail network from 1.1 when you can only place 2.0 rails. Also the map generator change is going to give you jarring lines as you expand.

The word I heard was 1300 CEST. That’s Central European Summer Time.

We have two computers in the house used for Factorio. Mine is fine (Win7, quad core 3.8ghz, 16 GB RAM).
The one my boys use is a bit slower (Win7, Dual core 3.0ghz, 8GB RAM; just ordered another 8GB stick).
I noticed that the system requirements seem to be a bit higher for Space Age. Will it still run on a Dual Core, just a bit slower, or is this a show-stopper?

Upgrading the RAM is plug and play, but upgrading the processor is more of a challenge.

Graphics card specs are very arcane these days; if the graphics card is enough to run base Factorio, it'll be fine for Space Age, right?
