Am i the only one who hates asteroids in orbit?
I tried searching around so forgive me if i just missed it. And maybe nobody is saying anything because I'm just bad. But I really wish there was a buffer period when i first launch a new platform where no large asteroids would show up.
They are getting bombarded less than 60 seconds after deployment so I've no time to setup defences or anything... It's really killing my desire to explore space at all at least let me setup before the large ones show up.
Edit: to be clear i do mean above other planets i know the starting world has no large ones in orbit

In Nauvis's Orbit there are no large asteroids, unlike in EVERY OTHER PLACE, which i figure out the hard way when i thought i would make Fulgora my spaceship making planet.
If you don't leave Nauvis's orbit, your platform is 100% safe for as long as you want to take to prepare it for more dangerous part of space.

Yeah that's the same issue I'm having lol. Really want to use fulgora but for whatever reason it seems they want you using nauvis onlymmmPI wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 4:09 am In Nauvis's Orbit there are no large asteroids, unlike in EVERY OTHER PLACE, which i figure out the hard way when i thought i would make Fulgora my spaceship making planet.

Well, you can have space stations in Fulgora orbit. ^^
But that said, you will likely need to assemble it in Nauvis orbit, at least enough to give it some movement & defense and then move it to Fulgora & expand it there. ^^

Nah, you don't need to. It feels wrong doing so, I agree, but except for Aquilo, asteroids in orbit can be safely ignored, assuming you ship a rocket worth of science packs every couple of hours, which should not bee too much of a problem. I assembled all my plattforms on Vulcanus.

Let say could copy paste a blueprint to have it made in Fulgora's orbit if you already have all the materials and it's a small ship but if you want to spend a few hours designing a platform, you may want to do so without the risk of being punished if you don't keep turret coverage everywhere during a delayed process that takes several hours because you don't have all the material and you do other things in remote view in the meantime to fix the increasing amount of trouble you get from other planet.
Re: Am i the only one who hates asteroids in orbit?
I agree with you. Guess how I got stranded on Fulgora for 10 hours. (after dropping down, my ship was out of fuel and getting hammered with asteroids until it was completely destroyed)
Getting an ship made from Fulgora from completely nothing wasn't impossible, but it was a major challenge, as sending up ammo is extremely expensive.

I used a BP from the internet for my first trip there. The same thing happened to me, lost the ship.Daid wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:52 am I agree with you. I let my Nauvis base rebuild it, because I realised I should just have sent it back to Nauvis in the first place after dropping. Then it's just a matter of building a rocket from scratch on a new planet. Or from whatever you brought with you.
I sent the 2nd iteration back to pick me up once my Fulgora rocket to orbit was ready.
Re: Am i the only one who hates asteroids in orbit?
I already told you, I did exactly that. I have not designed a single ship not in vulcanus orbit, no need to second-guess what I mean when I say what I mean directlymmmPI wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:46 am Let say could copy paste a blueprint to have it made in Fulgora's orbit if you already have all the materials and it's a small ship but if you want to spend a few hours designing a platform, you may want to do so without the risk of being punished if you don't keep turret coverage everywhere during a delayed process that takes several hours because you don't have all the material and you do other things in remote view in the meantime to fix the increasing amount of trouble you get from other planet.
I never designed any small ships either.
I never had any turret coverage whatsoever.
I would prefer there to be some arbitrary orbital-defense-system for such scenarios, for it to "feel right", but gameplay-wise shipping a rocket full of repair packs every 3-4 hours is absolutely sufficient anywhere except on Aquilo.
Just let the asteroids crash into the ship, and the ship will repair itself.

Re: Am i the only one who hates asteroids in orbit?
That's the same for me when i said that apart from Nauvi's orbit the asteroid punish you, maybe i should be clearer, regarding the title of the topic, if one hates asteroids, and as you mentionned there are not destroying the ship if you don't move, what do you think is the hate about ?
My guess is that someone, like OP doesn't like asteroid damaging platforms while it's being built. Which doesn't happen in Nauvis.
Sure you can say to someone , but it's ok i don't care myself i use repair packs, but my answer was not directed to you, it was an attempt at best providing answers, regarding a person that wish a buffer period during which the platform isn't bombarded, after saying it was unpleasant. Turns out there is such a place ! Only one ! But it may not be obvious for a first game with the stress of the alarm and possibly biters attacking the factory or other planets.
Never did i say it was impossible to do what you did, that's like shoveling the snow with a spoon, it's possible, but if that makes you hates snow, maybe you could try a more recommended tool I myself madeship out of Fulgora's orbit, that''s when i started to think it would more optimal to do so in Nauvi's orbit, and eventually relocated my shipyard area.
Re: Am i the only one who hates asteroids in orbit?
Asteroids in orbit are absolutely necessary though.
Your spaceship just wasn't up to snuff and could produce enough ammo to deal with them. You literally need a station hovering over each planet (especially once you deal with Calcite for furnaces).
Don't touch red ammo or complex rockets tho, yellow ammo and red rockets will do just fine.
It gets easier

once you can make copper and oil in space too
