If you place an assembler right next to a storage tank like this, then you are able to walk between the assembler and the storage tank. This doesn't make sense because there should be a pipe connecting the two, but in this case, you can walk through it.

Nice find. I don't know if they can increase the tank a bit more or if it's possible spawn another collision mask?

This issue is too small to be fixed. Mainly because fixing it would require special entity blocking the view.

Wouldn't this be solved by just extending a little stubby blocking things from everything that connects a pipe to them? Something native to how pipes connect to each other than having separate entity altogether? Don't really mind if it's not changed tho.
