Currently the rotary bits of the electric mining drill reverse direction when the mount reverses direction, which is visually jarring.
This has a simple fix, in that you double the number of animated frames, and move the mount back at the same speed and continuing to rotate the drill bits at the same speed.
I'm making a mockup, that while not polished has shown that this would produce a seamless animation where the drill bits always rotate in the same direction as the mount moves back and forth, since one complete playback of the animation rotates the drill bits slightly less than 1 time (e.g. the position of the drill bits in frame 1 would be the same as in frame 65).
In summary,
- Extend the mining drill animation to 128 frames
- Have the mount move as it does currently (e.g. 1 -> 64 then 64 -> 1)
- Have the drill bits rotate as they do in the forward direction (e.g. 1 -> 64 then 1-> 64 again)
I can do this myself at considerable time investment, and the result isn't quite perfect, but I would think that re-rendering the assets yourself would be substantially faster/easier.
