HD textures vs. load time
The new HD textures look amazing, but I'm concerned that they'll noticeably increase the load time. Has any thought been put into a more load on demand style system? Or is such a system already in place and I'm reading too much into the status messages during startup?
Re: HD textures vs. load time
You can use this and it makes it so the amount of textures you have to load doesn't change load time: https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comme ... g/dcjxrf2/
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Re: HD textures vs. load time
The issue that should concern you isn't load time, it's file size.
The big issue with using HD textures is that it will take more graphics memory when loaded(about 4 times for each HD item), Older computers might not be able to handle this.
Fortunately, the game does have options to resize these textures down on game load(and it does this pretty fast, so load times are barely effected). It can make the game quite blocky on minimum settings, but at least it works.
