Basically, secondary, optional "electric" network to nerf, buff or balance some game aspects.
What is Computation Center Grid?
It's simply copied, retextured and renamed electric grid infrastructure, working in very similar way. It may works slower (eg. 5-10 update per second) to increase UPS if it's a problem.
Steam Engines => Data Center
1 MegaWatts => 1 Data Packet = 1"floating point operation"
MegaWatts/h => Data Packets/s or Flops
Consumes Coal => Consumes (to be decided) r/g/b circuits and/or modules.
Copper Wire & poles => Fiber & poles (signal propagate from connected pole.
What devices consume Flops?
(Just really rough examples)
- Roboports (to nerf/buff bots). Bots from Roboport without enough Flops works slower and are "dumber".
- Splitters. Advanced options do not work (or works much slower) without connecting to Data Grid and consuming Flops.
- Advanced Inserters options. Maybe, some new Inserters features, such as predicting belt content and not waiting with not-full stack, or better Assembler filling (new option to set limits) may use Flops.
- Deciders - Without Flops input works just as now, with Flops "advanced mode" is available - more conditions in one device (like in locomotive). Each condition evaluation consume some amount of Data Packets, so if there are not enough Flops produced, Decider works at slower rate. Eg: Each condition consume 100.000 DP so 100 conditions in one device consume 10M DP. Evaluation each tick, so 60 MFlops is consumed from grid. If there are not enough (eg.6 MFlops), each evaluation takes 10 ticks instead of one.
- Beacons (I hate it, really...) Replaced by Routers, converting Flops into Bonuses. So... Just a retexture ;)
- Modules - replaced by receivers (sucks Flops from Grid to operate OR increase bonus)
- Science Labs - Parallel computing - EG: Researching some Tech and consuming 1000 red and 1000 green, transfers 20% (200 green and red) to some "secondary" science tree, even if it require also other science packs. Such science may be later "finished" in Labs without red and green packs.
- Turrets may consume Data Packets to better predict movement
- Nuclear Reactor - may use some Flops for better control power output and fuel consumption.
