TL;DR
One sentence to describe your idea with a bit different words than in the subjectGive the player the capability to change the name of a circuit network.
What ?
WHAT do you suggest? What is your idea that should be changed? Explain in detail your idea. What the game normally does is sequentially assign numbers to networks, with the player’s personal roboport starting as Network #1. Opening up the logistical network window, what is displayed from the pull down menu is Network #999 – 999 cells,” with the first number as the sequential number of the network, and the second number as the number of roboports within the network.
What appears on the menu is something like:
What I propose is giving the user a way to double click on the network name and change the network named similarly to how the name of train can be changed, so that when the pull down list is opened up from within the logistical network window, the user will see something like the following image:
Why ?
WHY do you think it increases the value of Factorio as a game?Players can currently change the name of the train stations, encoding useful information within the name of the station, such as “Iron Ore 02” or “Plastic Outpost 05”. Allowing the player change the name of the network is a logical extension of this functionality, facilitating and promoting use of separate networks. This will provide much more useful information to the player rather than just data. On a large mega base it is common to have multiple solar arrays, defense networks, mining outposts, automation outposts for one product, in other words well over 100 networks on a single map. Giving a player a quick way to navigate to the correct logistical network via a user defined name will enhance the replayability of the game, as well as make keeping track of a large mega base much easier.
