Re: Friday Facts #325 - New Explosions and Particles

The destruction effect on those rails makes me wish I had some kind of appetite for PVP in this game.

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction

I think the new look is great and several people need to recalibrate their displays. The old colour correction always felt kind of...sleepy? to me. Like it had no energy. Limp. Dead. Maybe some of the newfound dynamic range could be used to add some explicit dirt and grime details to things? Some mo...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I have several hundred hours under my belt with Factorio but also on my very first encounter with oil processing I was immediately like "this is too much to figure out at once". It was the first time that I chose to look at other people's designs before trying it myself because it was obvi...

Re: Friday Facts #284 - 0.17 experimental

Dynamic difficulty is hard to get right and I think everyone needs to remember that this is aiming at something good and probably not missing by much. The tutorial must apply production pressure in order to teach the thing it's trying to teach, and it can't do that predictably if it doesn't increase...

Re: Version 0.17.0

This ingredient removal thing makes less sense given that you still need an assembling machine 2 or up to handle liquids. You'd figure the same mentality that resulted in the limit removal from the 'lower' assemblers should also result in all assemblers being able to handle fluids. The reasoning wa...

Hmm they announced this for running out of fuel already in https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-253 but didn't explicitly say it was also in place for being stuck.

Re: Friday Facts #268 - The modern Biter

0.17 no news? Will it be ready for christmas? Just calling attention to this. I don't easily claim supporters are owed anything, but a roadmap would be nice. At the moment there is a new update every week that isn't very interesting from a game-play perspective. Game developers never know these thi...

Re: Friday Facts #265 - Nomenclature & Steam networking

Is this a good time to talk about how the technologies that unlock red and blue circuits should be named the same as the items they unlock and also have icons depicting those items? No matter how many hours I've put into this game, it never seems to click that "Advanced Electronics 2" with...

Re: Friday Facts #264 - Texture streaming

In case it's some help, confronted with a similar problem, I stopped rendering trees as whole sprites and divided their rendering into chunks aligned to a grid. Grid squares were marked as dirty if anything was animating or moving in them or if any of the trees were changed. If a grid square wasn't ...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)

Bots just need some kind of real upkeep cost. That's it. Energy capacity currently controls bot capacity and it's an easy one time cost to increase it. Either have bots consume fuel or require their Flying Robot Frames to be replaced periodically. This allows them to continue performing at their cur...
