Currently, the freshness of ingredients is a binary can-you-craft-in-time-or-not thing, except for recipes that end in science (or spoilable consumables where lifetime still matters).
It would be interesting if certain recipes that ended in non-spoilable products incentivized freshness by giving ...

+1, I think some way of controlling automatic artillery targets would be nice. In space age, a clear use case is not wanting your domesticated biters to get blown up if their food lapses, and you can imagine similar situations in mods. Tooltip field that's modifiable at runtime

Tooltip is a useful place to put information. Sometimes the information you want to put can't be figured out at prototype stage, for instance if it's supposed to depend on what technology you have unlocked.

sorry, that was mostly clarification for how I think it *might* work, specifically, allowing for more combat variety within a certain damage type. as it is now, the damage/resistance system includes something like this by using different resistances for different damage types; bullets do high damage ...

more of a general mechanic than a specific suggestion.

tldr Give specific damage sources the ability to ignore part or all of the target's resistances.

might be a little complicated, since you could have:
*flat flat resistance ignore,
*percentage flat resistance reduction,
*flat percentage ...
