Hi! My first post here. Sorry if I don't introduce me properly in it. Will do that later.
Say you've gotten deep into the game, and suddenly you're getting severely attacked. Only problem is that your defences ain't on par with the attack going on. you successfully kill off most of the attackers, but you perrish in the attack, and have to reload the game. So you try to craft some turrets during the attacks, but don't know where they are.
This is the current case in Factorio.
With this mod you would have a text field above the tabs, this would let you type what you search for, since you're looking for turrets, you type "turr" and find all relevant results on one easily accessible page.

If I may, I'd like to extend your suggestion to anything in the game, with a kind of Factopaedia that could be at least partly self-generated with the prototypes of all entities ingame - including mod-related content.
With an advanced searchbox with dynamic auto-completion

The search bar is being used in a lot of places now for 0.13 Recipes, selecting filters, train stops, and anywhere else that needs filtering. It opens by clicking the button or pressing the search hotkey (default shift + F) and allows you to search for matching items by name.
