Why can't we plant trees?

We send rocket to the space, but can't plant some trees. This is weird.

I'd say without an interesting wood industry behind it, it would be purely cosmetic to be able to plant trees, that's why we can't do it in Vanilla right now.

But there are a lot of different mods enabling that kind of thing. Though I would be interested in having some kind of wood industry in vanilla myself.

Well maybe the trees on the Factorio planet grow as fast as bamboo.

Well trees absorb pollution, ability to plant them would be nice help in ecological/peaceful playstyle.
It could be done in Factorio style like tree factory or greenhouse, producing half-grown trees from water, stone and electricity. Those you then pickup and plant or even send robots to plant them.
