I was unsure where to put this topic, I mean, it's not a bug, and it's not really much of a suggestion, so I thought balance be the best place.
I have noticed a significant difference between how enemies spawn when they are generated by map gen, and when they spread.
As an example, even on relatively lax setting, you can find groups of enemy nests and worms that span several map sectors, and when on the harder settings, can be an ocean of solid red surrounding your start location.
in contrast, when enemies spread, you usually get a small cluster of nests and worms, rarely above a dozen even when the map gen is set to give rather extreme settings, but because the base span is set to a minimum of 3 sectors, well, there's large gaps between these small splotches of enemy bases.
Has anyone else noticed this?
So, I was wondering If there could be a change in this expansion mechanic, perhaps allow enemy nests to actually grow, and by this I mean additional nests spawning next to existing bases, or even if the map settings are set to be more extreme, lower the nearest sector expansion distance so they can spawn right next to each other.
What does everyone else thing on the subject?

Re: Enemy spawns
Biter behavior is the same regardless of difficulty settings. It would be nice for that to change.

Yeah, I want to go away, and come back to see the map nothing but red!
Re: Enemy spawns
I've noticed quite frequently that expanded base ends up being single medium or big worm when using bob's warefare mod.
I asked at some point for event that would allow mod to override the spawns but there was no reply to it.

Re: Enemy spawns
it may be possible that my enemies mod results in more big worms, due to the additional types of big worm... but that should be balanced out by the additional elemental nests too.
Re: Enemy spawns
Your suggestion has been taken into consideration and enemies will be allowed to build denser bases when re-populating an area in 0.13.

This is wonderful news!Oxyd wrote:Your suggestion has been taken into consideration and enemies will be allowed to build denser bases when re-populating an area in 0.13.
I do hope though that it takes map settings into consideration, so that those who set sparser enemy spawns still get fewer like they do now.

Re: Enemy spawns
How do I reduce huge clusterfucks of biters? they're the small ones and I and using all of Bob's mods except for the vehicle attachments and there was one mod for reducing evolution for attacking enemy bases. but Does anyone have a way they can help me because I try attacking evemy bases thinking that helps and Bob's new worms impede me charging into bases which isn't a bad thing as it adds more of a challenge
