Re: Just bought the game; What were Your first impressions?
My first impression was that it was everything I loved about the old technic modpack in Minecraft, except that it had been made into its own game. This was certainly the game for me, and I've loved every minut of the 100-some hours I've spent on my second base (not counting the one I made in the trial)
Also, shoutout to the Devs for giving us a Trial version. It taught me the basics of Factorio, and was the sole reason I bought it. It took my interest from mild curiosity to insatiable desire.

I must admit I can't remember my first impressions of the game...
I'm sure I had some first impressions, but I'm way to busy building stuff to remember!
Probably something like excited terror.

I add a lot of fun, but I was very confused to discover that you couldn't queue orders in any way. The first time I used ghost mode, I expected my engineer to start constructing the structures if he had the resources.
Turns out to do that, you need tech 3 and robots which come very late.

My first impression was pretty bad. The gameplay seemed to be very boring and I refunded the game on Steam after a few minutes of playtesting.
Then I saw some examples of what you can do in this game and a friend gifted me another copy of this game on Steam and I tried it again. I learned the basics and tried some things out. Now I have 202 hours playtime on Steam.

First impressions:
Day 1:
hmm this goes here, and that goes there and AAHAHHHHHHH BUGS!
Day 2:
Turrets turrets everywhere, that'll show those bugs... how how do I do this oil thing....
Day 300:
24 lane factories, maps that have a separate player transit system.
Do I increase green circuit production or increase copper wire first....

Day 300 and you haven't learned the answer to this? The answer is 'yes'.halcyonforever wrote:Do I increase green circuit production or increase copper wire first....

Every so often I see a let's play of a game and buy it less than 2 minutes into the video. Factorio is such a game.

If less than 50% of your production is copper wire/green circuit, then add more?vedrit wrote:Day 300 and you haven't learned the answer to this? The answer is 'yes'.halcyonforever wrote:Do I increase green circuit production or increase copper wire first....

Re: Just bought the game; What were Your first impressions?
First reactions:
"So, where's the tutorial... o wait there's a single player campaign."
"That was a quick mission, will they all be so fast?"
"Whoa, that steam engine is big! And I need half a dozen of those just to power a radar?"
"Err. Recover a train network? But I have no rails? Or locomotives..."
"What are the Zerg doing in this game? Where are my flamebats? Oh, wait, there's flame turrets."
"Okay, single player campaign done. Let's try freeplay. And build big."
"Okay, I got freeplay down. Keep running out of ore. Let's load some mods to get infinite ore in some patches."
*loads some of Bobs mods* Holy Mother of Manufacturing... tooo... maaaannnnyyy... reeesources!
Seriously though. Single player story mode is a nice tutorial to this game. Freeplay to get the more advanced mechanics down. Mods if you want to go batpoop crazy on the complexity.

Kept track on it for a long time, watching streams, YT videos. Decided to buy as a birthday gift for my very self. First session lasted 9 hours. It was fantastic.

Re: Just bought the game; What were Your first impressions?
I've bought the game because i saw a speedrun and i watched it till the end. Two things: i had NO clue what the person was doing and i could not understand a single word of what he said but it was so fascinating that i just HAD to buy the game.
My first impression is that it reminds me of being a Sheep. I stare at the game and the game stares back....awesome, just awesome
