Rail signal placement should show also ghosts in front of the train signal

Post by thelonegoldfish »

TL;DR
The rail-signal (non-chain, or both) should show ghosts behind and in front of their position.
What ?
When I'm placing a non-chain rail signal, I'm most often concerned with whether or not a train will fit in _front_ of it than behind it.

Why ?
Because if there's not enough space in front of the rail signal, jams happen.

+1

Currently the game only shows how many carriages will fit behind the signal you are about to place. That works well if you are adding signals whilst mcving in the same direction as the train. But often I build signals working backwards from a station, stacker or intersection, and in that situation I often want to add as many train sized waiting bays as possible. Si it would be good to see the number of carriages in both directions from a new signal. (An alternative would be to only show the number of carriages that will fit if there is a signal or station in front of the signal that you are about to place).

Definately agree with this. Was always annoying trying to figure out where to place the signal so that i could have an appropriately placed block on both sides of the signal.

Important (and easy) Fix for Train Signals

Post by nuhll »

Hey,
1.) PLEASE add the ghost wagons (when placing signals e.g.) also AFTER the cursor NOT only just before.

(is already implemented) 2.) Also i would REALLY love a way to change the ghosts shown, maybe a config option? I dont see why its so less, most of us use much larger trains, so this is relativly useless?

When you place a rail signal, you see the configured number of ghost wagons, but ONLY before (that is leading up to) the signal, not following the signal.

When you are trying to place a number of signals, it would be most helpful to see both ahead and behind. Changing the number of wagons does not affect this.

OOps missed that, thaanks, so one thing is already implemented (2). The other fix would be nice to have. (1)

i think he is asking why would you want to see ahead. it has no identifiable value to the train network.

it is if you are setting up signals in the reverse direction of travel.

if you want your signals to be 4 wagons apart, but start from the first, you need to look, "ah there is 4 cars" move your cursor to that spot, place signal, move back to first signal, and verify you placed correct and werent off by 2 or 3 blocks, repeat a lot of times.

When you have 2 that are the correct distance just copy/paste and line them up with the previously placed ones.
