Not sure if this is allowed as it's technically not a game bug, but there's either some manipulation going on, or something seriously wacky with the trending calculation on the mod portal.
The same mod (https://mods.factorio.com/mod/infinityWater) has been on top for a few weeks now and seems very disproportionate to anything it's surrounding, especially given its content.

An update every day looks fishy but trending or not...

Re: Mod Portal - Trending Mod
Trending always was a broken feature.
It could only work if the portal tracked unique downloads per version and user instead of total downloads without checking against multiple downloads by the same user.

Re: Mod Portal - Trending Mod
Agreed! There are legitimate use cases for downloading one mod version multiple times (e.g. several Factorio installed locally, for testing or playing with different set of mods or whatever; for modders, comparing the code of the installed version against that of another etc.), but counting each download by the same user makes the download numbers useless.
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

Re: Mod Portal - Trending Mod
"水井集成模组(Water well slurry)" has now been top of the trending mods for nearly two months.
It's not just the mod portal website - within the in-game mod browser, the mod has the top score of 3293 as well.
It gets an average of about 60 downloads a day.
The entire first page of trending results appears frozen in time.

I think it's simply dead in the water and not counting at all.
Pretty easy to see with new mods like Krastorio2 that have no trending score at all. And my guess owuld be mod that was featured in FFF would produce some decent traffic.

Re: Mod Portal - Trending Mod
Well, Krastorio 2 has already had half the downloads in 3 days that the multi-rip-off Water Well Slurry mod had over 4 months, so, yeah. From memory the trending feature had some kind of weekly-ish refresh so that might have otherwise explained it, but Slurry been stuck at the top of the list for many weeks while several other massively subscribed mods have been updated during that time.
Re: Mod Portal - Trending Mod
Indeed the trending script hasn't run for a while due to an error made when upgrading. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I've fixed it.
