"Couldn't establish connection to the server"

I keep getting this message when I try to join my friends game.
I know for a fact that he has forwarded the prot 34197. Our only real problem is that I can't forward that port.

This is due to me not being able to get the login screen for my Web UI by typing in my routers standardgateway ip (192.168.1.1)
Can anyone help me with this problem?
I have used the last 4 hours checking every aspect of this and looking a lot of information up on the internet.

Hm. Check out your router type and search the Internet how to log into it. Mine for example needs to be pressed a button on it first, then I can log in within a 2 minute window.

It should work when only one of you has a port open. Just make sure that you friends sets the forwarding for udp (tcp forwarding won't do it) and that you are using his public IP (not 10.xx.yy.zz nor 192.168.xx.yy). Also, are you sure that your friend has a public IP? Sometimes the ISP has another layer of router with NAT.

We solved it, I didn't solve my portforwarding problem, but my friend figgured out his.
I've used like 5 hours browsing the web looking for possible solutions and looked through the manual on my router so... I don't know... But in my oppinion it's a rather big problem if 2 players have this issue with the ports. If that occurs they won't have the ability to play multiplayer.

v0.11 isn't thought for that, you need to wait till v0.12 or so.

Setting up ports is not related to factorio.

And if you installed evolve, then installed the party virtual internet thing correctly, like in the guide you wil find on the forums and hydra group. Then I dont see why it didnt work.
Were you both in a party in evolve and used the one that was hosting evolve ip?

I'm just as confused about this problem to be honest. That's kind of why I asked on here since people might have good suggestions i didn't find online.

I already tried this, didn't work either...

But I have to stress the guy I'm playing with FIGGURED HIS OUT (after i asked the original question), we can play factorio online, but i'm just trying to find out how I can play with another person if it comes to it.

I got a similar problem, some mins i want away and a friend had a web problem, when i got back i couldn't connect to him anymore, even when he was still using the same options, we had that problem some days before too.

It's also not a cross-platform problem since some other friends can'T connect tot. Weird o.O (im playing on mac and the others are playing on win, works pretty well)

We'Re also getting heavy lags after 10-30 mins, when i reconnect everything is solved, on a strange kind of way o.O.
