perspective steering

Post by tragedy »

The ability to set the jeep controls so that hitting left goes left of screen (either turning to the left of screen, or going backwards if it is facing right of screen), rather than left of the vehicle.

I first tried this game (demo) on the switch and loved it, so got the PC version. I realised when I got to the car that there was no option to change the steering from 'absolute' to 'perspective', but there is on the switch. There are similar questions to this, but they talk more about omnidirectional wheels, rather than smart steering.

This behaviour would replace VehicleSnap.

Ah, so there's a mod for that. Thank you, and apologies for the ignorance. I'm still quite new to both Factorio (My first factory experience was/is Satisfactory), and PC gaming + mods.

Well, I think it is not exactly the same as the suggestion, because you still press the forward button to move. I just mean that if steering was aligned to the movement direction button that mod would be obsolete.

As far as I know there are three movement types in Factorio. Fourth is Train, but it is on rails anyway.
Jeep is rudder and thruster.
Tank is caterpillar.
Person/Spidertron is directional.
Do you want option to change only jeep type?
If so, later you would ask to change tank type.
And still would have troubles with train.

Did you know that DMV adds a spider-vehicle prototype for each (or most?) car prototype it finds, and then changes the result of recipes from the car to the spider-vehicle prototype? Thus, if the mod is added to a running game, any new "car" players build will actually be a spider-vehicle and use directional movement. However, IIRC existing cars won't be replaced and should still use the old steering.
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

It is built into the game as well....if you use a controller.
