- What did you do?
I disconnected my boilers from the pipe supplying them with water and, despite consuming about 3 water per second they took quite a while to appear like they'd consumed any of their stored water. At first I thought that it was somehow duplicating the fluid by passing it back and fourth between the boilers/steam engines, now I believe that the machines were storing more than indicated by the GUI.
What I expected to happen was for the water in the boilers to immediately start dropping once they were disconnected from the supply.
Every time I retry this it happens but I haven't tested with any other world than the one in the attached video.
to recreate the issue, supply a boiler with water or a steam engine with steam, then break the connection between the boiler or steam engine and the supply of its respective fluid, the machine should continue to operate for a while before it appears to start consuming the fluid.
The issue is not related to the change in water to steam ratios (when I asked if this was a bug on the reddit page people seemed weirdly fixated on that idea)
Thanks for making such a great game, I've got 2.8k hours in it and that number is gonna be rising pretty rapidly as I make my way through the new content.

Re: [2.0.8][Space age] Boilers and steam turbines appearing to not consume input fluids after being disconnected from su
It's not infinite, it looks like the usual fluidbox buffer. At the end of your video you can see the (visible) fluid buffer in the boiler dropping. I think there's another fluidbox as like a first buffer, which must about store ~100's of water units, but not visible to you in the gui.
I wonder if the new fluid logic is overfilling that buffer when pipes are deconstructed perhaps? Might just be intended behaviour though.

Yea looks like there is an internal buffer

This is working as intended. The boilers have an internal buffer that is separate from the segment. It's slightly unintuitive, but without this buffer the boilers would not consume fluid evenly when starved and would not be subject to the push/pull rate limits.
Don't forget, you're here forever.
