[DLC] Strange fail conditions for the "Rush to space" achievement

Post by Generallydonothing »

IDK if this is the right section for this but it seems like a weird inconsistency

The "Rush to space" achievement fails if you research either yellow/purple science instead of using it in a lab or crafting it in game. This is incredibly strange as all other achievements that related to science require you to use it in a lab for research. If the goal is to force you to get to another planet and convert it without production or utility science then this change wouldn't cause any real differences.

I only realized that this was the case because me and three other guys I know wanted to go for it, and we awkwardly realized that we all lost the ability to get the achievement because none of us realized that the condition was different from the other achievements. It's a very feel-bad moment in an otherwise great experience.

"Rush to space" achievement could be before using prod/util sci, not unlocking them

Post by Kusibu »

Could just be a matter of personal taste, but it feels weird that the offworld requirement is using a science pack (not just unlocking it) and the Nauvis requirement is unlock-based, so you get "punished" if you're just dumping science packs into whatever's available without production and utility science being produced.

Rush to Space fix

Post by blazecus »

Love the new expansion so far, but I was a bit frustrated when I finished a Vulcanus tech and realized I missed the text "This achievement becomes disabled if you finish researching production science or utility science". Was gunning for that achievement but had already researched everything I could with blue science... Maybe it would make more sense if the achievement was only disabled if you research a tech with yellow and purple?

Allow researching science packs for "Rush to Space" achievement

Post by ChefOfRamen »

TL;DR
Disqualify "Rush to Space" upon either crafting or using the science packs, instead of upon researching them.
What?
Players should be allowed to research production and utility science and still get Rush to Space, so long as they didn't actually research anything with them. Looking at the consumption stats might be cheesable, so it would be either upon crafting an offending science pack or researching a technology with one.
Why?
The spirit of the achievement is "do a planet without yellow/purple science". I, personally, like to research everything I can with the science packs I have, and I was several hours into Gleba when I found out I wouldn't be able to get the achievement, and rewinding to an older save would mean losing around 10 hours of progress. Changing the implementation of this would make it more forgiving while still staying within the spirit of the achievement.

I have the same problem, researched the science packs and only after few hours checked achievements and saw my "Rush to Space" is already disabled, even when I didn't produce even one of the packs yet, and it is to late to reload from older save

Atleast the wording is clear:

The only two related achievements are
  • "Steam all the way" aka no solar before rocket
  • "Raining bullets" aka no laser turrets before rocket
I think you are allowed to research those, as you need them for personal solar/lasers. With Rush to space there is no need to research it, to unblock anything you are allowed to build. So i guess its consistent?

[Koub] Merged several threads about rush to space being failed upon researching with science packs instead of researching the science packs.

Finally unlocked the EM science pack from Fulgora, without logistics or purple/yellow science. Decided to doublecheck the conditions of the "Rush to space". Lo and behold, the weird "before unlocking" condition. I'm happy I didn't start properly setting up the Fulgora yet, as it seems I'm not getting the achievement anyways (unlocked the utility and production sciences but didn't craft a single one yet). Obviously, this condition unreasonably punishes people who missed this achievement being slightly different from the others.

Registered on the forum just to join the choir of voices asking to change the achievement condition from "unlocking" the science to either "crafting" a science pack or "researching a technology with a science". Feeling really cheated, considering Logistic Network Embargo is much less punishing and much more obvious with its "without building" clause. Hope I'll at least get that one.
