Power Armor MK2 does not have a 10 x 10 grid but instead uses the 6 x 8 grid from the regular power armor.
is this because of a mod possibly?

i disabled the mods, loaded and the grid was fine. reanabled them one by one and now it just works. no clue what went wrong

You did not open a power armor MK2. Would be great if you could give your topics a title in the future, especially if they are supposed to be bug reports.
