There should be an ulra hard mode where every square inch would be covered in enemy bases ;)

FTFY :P

RE Fish:If by hard mode, you mean any increase over default settings, then perhaps.

I notice there is a large amount of player structures, so I have to wonder how many hours this game has on it.
The longer you play, the larger and more frequent the bases/hives get.

I do not see *large* structures. The factory is tiny :).

I almost assume it's a 'peaceful' game, otherwise the pollution should have caused them already to attack and shred everything to pieces. Especially the radars would have caused attacks.

Nah, it's unsatisfyingly easy to hold back that amount of biters.

to answer the question, yes that is normal. easier settings than this quickly get boring, so i'd call it a baseline for current game mechanics ;)

It's actually quite nice. Enough area to expand without running into bitters and bases large enough to need PAMKII to take on rather than a simple turret spam. I played one game with more enemies than here, due to limiting pollution I wasn't attacked even once. Not even when I placed Rocket Defense... all that time to build laser towers wasted.

The biter settings are most likely set higher than normal, but perhaps not at max. Though the base isn't that big, there is a decent amount of structures, so I would say the game has been going for at least a few hours already.
Does have nice sized starting area though, should be able survive without too much trouble :D

The sad part is that the more nests you have to destroy, when you go attack them, it doesn't make it harder nor you need some new strategy, just takes longer to destroy them.
