Version 2.0.20
Re: Version 2.0.20
Making everything an option is both unnecessary, a giant pain in the ass to maintain, and foolhardy.
I for one am glad to see the devs finally coming to their senses and stripping out a number of very questionable “optional” things that people can go ahead and mod in themselves again if they actually care enough.
That gives the devs more time to focus on things that the majority of their user bases actually cares about.

And this is how I changed mine several days ago.Shiny998 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:24 pmExactly, the visual style is completely off. The new icons are too chunky and cartoony, they don't match the rest of the UI or the feel of the game. I've been playing factorio since the old days and the wire icons were better. I can see in the files that the new icons are higher resolution but I think Wube needs to go back to the drawing board; they are terrible.Fevix wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 6:44 pmI do agree that the icons do not match the visual style of the game at all. While they succeed massively in ensuring the icons are readable and distinguishable (Especially with the "G" and "R" for green and red circuits), none of the rest of the game shares this design philosophy. (EG., the buttons for the various map overlays, the various item/recipe icons, etc etc etc)kovarex wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 6:09 pmCan you be more specific? I was actually recently approving these, and I find it to be an improvement. The icons are bigger (with less empty space around), so it is more visible, and the wire icons are not confusable with the actual wire item.
On top of that, I personally hide vast majority of the icons, if I know the shortcut and use it a lot (copy (Ctrl+C), cut (Ctrl+X), paste (Ctrl+V), undo (Ctrl+Z), redo (CTRL+Y), alt, blueprint (ald-B), deconstruction planner (alt-D), red wire (alt-R), green wire (alt-G))
This means, that there are just a few missing icons left to be on the screen all the time.
I'd like to see it as an option somewhere in the menu: Legacy, Legacy (Less empty space), Modern
In the meantime, I made my own icons in the style of the new icons. High res but I used the wire icons because personally, I think they fit the game design better. 11-20-2024, 04-24-29.png

New user here to the forums (sorry if this isn't the right place for this question) but with the recent changes I am seeing some odd behavior with neighborhood bonuses for both the fusion reactor as well as the nuclear reactor. I am not sure if there is something I am doing incorrectly but these values do not seem correct with the simple setups.
Fusion says 105% yet the amount is producing is 2MC

Re: Version 2.0.20
In my opinion, you just need to get used to the new icons. They're an improvement from the perspective of a new player who never saw the UI. For old players they're different, so you need to change, but after you accepted the change, you never look back. In 3 days, you forgot there were other icons in the past.
Re: Version 2.0.20
The wording of this is a bit misleading. It is actually centering on the first spidertron that was added to the remote.FactorioBot wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 3:47 pm [*]Selecting a spidertron remote selection in the quickbar which is for a different planet than the current one will center on the planet.
Re: Version 2.0.20
I'd say there are currently 2 "issues" with the wire icons. First is stylistic consistence; the dark border seems to be thicker than the lines in e.g. the paste and import blueprint icons, causing them to stand out. Second is the mismatch between the icon and the tool you get when selecting them. This also applies to the three remotes, and has always(?) been the case for bp/decon/upgrade planners. Granted, the planner tools are all basically colored squares and for the book tool and icon are close to each other, making these less of a "problem".
That said, take this with a grain of salt as I don't see these icons. My shortcut bar consists of toggle exoskeleton and toggle personal roboport, not for clicking on them but as indicators. I'd add toggle personal logistics if it would exist.

That's better. I like how the blueprint buttons are simple. I just think the new icons are too chunky and don't fit with the rest of the icons.jamiechi1 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:41 pmAnd this is how I changed mine several days ago.Shiny998 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:24 pmExactly, the visual style is completely off. And just curiously, does anyone know if there's a limit on nested quotes? Will my post eventually be 10+ nested quotes? I can image that would look messy after a while.
Re: Version 2.0.20
I also want to add something: The red wire looks like it's folded the hard and cable breaking way, which personally triggers my assumptions on how to treat wires x). By "rewiring" the cable and having someone who has proper design skills the "hard" fold could be removed. Anything along these lines would solve it:

Re: Version 2.0.20
Yeah I have to agree here.Shiny998 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 8:28 pmI also wanted to quote here that while I agree that the new icons are better for those who are colorblind. No design feature should be forced upon the general user base. It should be an option that can be toggled on or off. As a game designer of three years, this is how I'd approach situations like this.MechBFP wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 7:45 pmBecause they are improved from an accessibility perspective for anyone that is color blind. Notice they look like G for Green and R for Red? They are WAY, way, way better. The only suggestion I would have is to color the regular wire as copper instead of black and white.
Besides, when you actually click the icon, it doesn't keep the UI icon when you place wires in the world. It uses the regular wire icon instead.
I wasn't having any trouble with the previous icons, and I hide most of them, but I also agree that if there were requests for the change then the change is welcome, but please let it be a toggle on or off as I find they're to big for.
My first reaction was to try and resize my UI to match which wasn't possible.
The rest of the updates are amazing. Thank to you all there for you're tireless work on this game.

Honestly, I like the new icons. I found, I am using them slightly more now. I can easier see what the buttons do.

You might have more luck with your question in the Gameplay Help subforum.
(But please search the forums first to see whether a similar issue has already been discussed !)

These are awesome in comparison to the old ones! I could hardly tell what the old ones were.

And disable achievements just for that? Also I wouldn’t have bought the word program in the first place if I was that particular about unimportant things.

Then there you go, revert to the 32 size and use a mod if you need it more big thenMechBFP wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 11:04 amYes.igoticecream wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 10:55 amAnd disable achievements just for that? Fine by me if the developers want to do that. Although based on my experience they only make changes if it is based on a reasonable complaint.igoticecream wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 11:18 amThen there you go, revert to the 32 size and use a mod if you need it more big thenMechBFP wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 11:04 amYes.igoticecream wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 10:55 amAnd disable achievements just for that? Re: Version 2.0.20
And i think is reasonable to ask for size options, just like phones where the user can configure the size of the icon apps to their liking, for example my grand mother phone icon size is big just like this new icons and shes confortable with that, i prefer to set it to a lower icon size so i can be confortable tooMechBFP wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 11:33 amFine by me if the developers want to do that. Re: Version 2.0.20
While I have no problems with the icons myself I would agree that the black border should be much smaller and the copper wire should have the correct color. That would probably make the icons much less of an annoyance magnet.
Re: Version 2.0.20
Green/red/copper wires having distinct shapes and colors from Copper cable was most likely a conscious decision to address bugreportes such as 116758 Unable to assign Copper Wire recipe in Assembly Machine 2, where players would confuse the two and be perplexed as to why it doesn't work.
Re: Version 2.0.20
I love the new icons. They're much easier to see than whatever was there previously.
Although, to stay on topic, I'm very glad to have so many bugs fixed so quickly. I was watching all of them come through the experimental releases, and I'm happy to have a stable release with all of them in there. Great job, Wube!
