[2.0.20] Configuration dialog closes when ghost item is built
[2.0.20] Configuration dialog closes when ghost item is built
What I'm doing: editing the configuration of a ghost object.
What happens: if a bot comes along and builds the item I'm editing, the configuration dialog slams closed, and any settings made are lost.
Expected behavior: The configuration dialog should stay open regardless of build status. Losing user input is bad UX juju.
Frequency of occurrence: As far as I can tell, this happens every time, for any object type I've happened to be editing. It's especially annoying with inserters, spliitters, and assemblers since it's quite common to have them be in ghost form for a while.

Thanks for the report however I can not reproduce this. Are you using any mods? Can you provide a save file where this happens?

Re: [2.0.20] Configuration dialog closes when ghost item is built
I am using no mods other than the standard ones for space age. I don't think a save file will help, since this is a transitory problem. Let me try giving a step-by-step, that seems to make it easy to invoke the problem.
1) Ghost build a sorter as far as possible from a source for sorters in your robot network.
2) After verifying that it's "light blue" (indicating a bot has been assigned), click on the sorter to open its configuration.
3) Click on the "filter" button to bring up an item picker. Select an item, but don't close the dialog.
4) Wait around for the bot to build the sorter. At the "plunk" sound, the dialog will close itself, and your selection will be lost.
Note: This isn't limited to sorters - ghost inserters with wire, and assemblers do it too.
Here's a screenshot of what I'm doing. Unfortunately I caught the screenshot with the construction bot under the dialog, but about 2 seconds later, the dialog closed itself.

Re: [2.0.20] Configuration dialog closes when ghost item is built
I am unable to reproduce that issue. Are you sure you're actually running 2.0.20? This issue was specifically fixed in 2.0.18.

Yep! I verified that when I did a screenshot just a few minutes ago. This is the macOS version, which may be significant since this is just about the only game I ever play on my mac.

I guess it failed to upload because it was too large?

For some reason the forum isn't showing an upload button. It's 27mb anyway, so Here's a link on my personal site.

Ahhh I see now. You are too far from the entity and so when it's built you are not allowed to have the GUI open anymore and so it closes.

Ha, that's hilarious. I'm on ANOTHER PLANET regardless of whether it's a ghost or the actual item (actually it happens on the same planet too, if you're building ghosts because you're out of reach). I get that this is a programmed-in conflict, but self-closing dialogs are really annoying.
Re: [2.0.20] Configuration dialog closes when ghost item is built
It works perfectly fine for me when in remote view because remote view has no such distance limit. Observe:Peevester wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 12:06 am Ha, that's hilarious. Re: [2.0.20] Configuration dialog closes when ghost item is built
Forgive the bit of performance anxiety in my movements - I have never recorded myself playing a game before. What I did was, I deposited a single construction bot in a nearby roboport, put a single splitter into a storage chest next to it, and ghost built a splitter. Here's that in action. Note I am not touching anything after selecting the fish. This is about as basic as I can get to reproduce the event. Yep, can confirm it doesn't happen in remote view - I did the same thing while remoting into fulgora and the dialog stayed open.
Still worth fixing, I think.
