Hello engineers,
after a couple of years, I decided to come back for space age.
Unfortunately, I am now plagued by very annoying mouse freezing / stuttering.
It happens in main menu (with background simulation) as well as in the first tutorial mission (and probably all other game modes).
When I attempted fixing it myself, I mostly moved the mouse in circles in the main menu to see if any fix worked (they didn't).
I'm adding a Videoclip to demonstrate.
The stuttering mostly is as follows: The cursor would freeze for quite exactly one second in place, then reappear where it would have ended. It would then continue moving normally for a split second and go into a one second freeze again. Sometimes it's just one freeze, sometimes up to five in a row. It would then run smoothly for a couple of seconds before doing the same.
Apparently, clicks are also not registered during a freeze.
All animations / gameplay in the background seem to continue smoothly.
The mouse is an LG G203.
other specs:
Win 11
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
AMD 6600 graphics card
16 GB RAM
I remember I had a different LG mouse and graphics card when I last played Factorio years ago, I didn't have this problem then.
Factorio is the only game giving me this specific issue.
I tried turning off all graphical toys in the graphics menu, to no avail.
I updated my graphics driver just today, that also didn't change anything.
I also downloaded the LG app to play around with DPI and sampling rate, but there was no obvious change.
Thanks in advance for any attempt of help.

Try resetting all Radeon settings to default if you haven't already.
And you can try the following:
Create a new Windows profile, log in, and launch Factorio there. To make sure it's not your user profile configuration (antivirus, overlays, drivers or whatever).
Next thing, you can check built-in Windows tool: Event Viewer (system tab) for hardware errors, especially storage media errors. HDD can cause mouse to get stuck/lag if system is hard-locked waiting for a response from I/O. It can happen when storage media has problems or RAM is full and system is busy swapping to virtual memory.

Re: [2.0.41] Mouse freezes / stutters while game runs smoothly
I just plugged the mouse into another USB slot and that seems to have solved it.
I feel a bit stupid for not having tried this earlier, but I also don't understand why that is a thing.
If the problem reoccurs, I'll report it here. Otherwise, this case seems closed.

Different USB port pairs can have different Speeds (USB2 vs USB3), or be affected by nearby devices like a Printer or Webcam. You can sometimes find more info in Windows Event Viewer (or dmesg on Linux) when un/plugging.NorekBorek wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 5:29 am I just plugged the mouse into another USB slot and that seems to have solved it.
