[2.0.43] Foundry rotation not remembered with set recipe and changing fluid input/output roles

Post by Tertius »

Issue:
Every time the foundry recipe is changed from creating molten stuff to casting stuff and vice versa, custom rotated fluid inputs/outputs are again at the top, no matter the previous rotation.
How to reproduce:
A foundry is set to "set recipe" and it gets recipes for creating molten iron/molten copper, as well as recipes for casting steel and casting copper cable. The intended fluid inputs/outputs are at the bottom, so as soon as the molten iron recipe is set, I rotate the foundry manually to have the fluid outputs at the bottom. It's still at the bottom, when the recipe changes to molten copper.

When the recipe is changed to cast steel, the fluid inputs are again at the top, so I rotate them down. When it is changed to cast copper cable, it's still at the bottom.
But when the recipe is changed back to create molten iron/molten copper, the fluid outputs are again at the top. I rotate them again down, but every time the recipe is changed from creating molten stuff to casting stuff and vice versa, the fluid inputs/outputs are again at the top.

I expect them to stay at the bottom where I rotated them.

Not a bug. Input pipes and output pipes are on the opposite sides as there are recipes that need fluid in and fluid out at the same time.

Darn. Would be so easy to have them all at the same side in that setup
Thanks for the clarification.

Hey that remind me of the trouble i had with blueprint and foundries : 120686

By the time i tried your design you had received answer, but i liked it and spent a little time to change it to make the the pipes loop to see if it'd work, edit: and it does ! sometimes work.

Edit : not sure why but if you change the 1000 to 980 for molten iron, it works without problems.

Unfortunately it's part of a bigger setup, made for a promethium ship, with the intent of being as compact and space preserving as possible. It turned out all the fluid handling with pumps and pipes and storage tanks and extracting and feeding back ingredients after recipe change makes it really ugly and as big as just 4 single foundries. So I just use 4 single foundries.

The recipe toggling in my setup comes from auto-flush molten iron/copper back into the storage tank on recipe change, where it triggers the previous recipe again. I said something about being ugly.

That's unexpected , it look like a 1-foundry-for-railgun-shells-setup, as requested in this thread 128028 and i thought you encountered the mentionned behavior when making a setup to post there.

When i added the extra pipes it worked with 980 molten iron but not with 1000 which caused flicker situations sometimes on the foundry recipe, that must be the explanation somehow, but i can't explain it to myself nor write an explanation, i'll have another look at it, but it seem more logical that YOU post the setup there ^^^ i would read the explanations on why it works x)
