TL;DR
When hovering a pipe, show a tally of all the connected buildings in the sidebar. What?
When hovering a pipe it highlights the entire pipe network. This also shows all the inputs, outputs and the feed-through buildings (e.g. turbines, thrusters, flame turrets). In the sidebar it shows the pipe's extent.I would like it to also show a tally of all buildings that are contained in the pipe network or are attached to it:
Why?
This helps to quickly check if I've build the correct ratio of boilers vs turbines and to spot any connection issues. For foundries and petrochem its useful too. There are current alternatives. Buildings can be counted using the copy paste tool, but that does not take connectivity into account. Connectivity can be checked visually with the overlay (which for steam is gray and thus hard to see). However, having a tally in the sidebar is another quick method to verify that everything is build correctly. If the building count is wrong or if buildings are listed as output instead of input, you know you have a connection error somewhere in the pipe network.
In the example image I want to use pumps to throttle the power production, but made the mistake of connecting the input and output of the pumps. In the sidebar the pumps show up as both input and output, which tells me what I did wrong.
