Community voted tags and categories

Post by protocol_1903 »

I think it would be useful for users on the mod portal to be able to vote for tags and categories on mods, so that users can sort by the community voted tags and/or the developer picked tags. This would be useful for people to vote to add tags to mods that are mislabeled, or remove other tags. It would also help to properly orient mods that are in the wrong category, notably modpacks vs overhauls and content vs tweaks, and internal mods being all over the place.

+1, it'd defintely be useful for mismatched mods, but i could imagine it causing some issues with overhaul mods that do alter things, but dont outright add new content (for things like armour, storage, etc).
I am in support of this though, i just could see a possible issue arising from it

Thats fair, prehaps just tags then and not categories. But in either case, if it's a separate "community voted" search then the author's direction isn't completely overridden

I don't know about the proposal, it seem like people can argue forever if something is a "cheat" or not, and i can imagine other instances where such feature can yield conflictual vision on things.

On the other hand, i'm not always sure when publishing a mod if it's a tweak or utilities or cheat or content sometimes and i feel a community feedback could be useful for setting consistency.

Conflicting vision sure, it will help inform people whether or not most people can agree or if it's in a grey area. I know it would help me decide if I want to try it out or not.

I don't understand what you mean by the second sentence. I meant that if people can vote for the tag of some mods, you will have players that have made "Overhaul" that will see other players vote "NO it's a TWEAK" , Conflicting ? conflictual ? , i'm not sure i understand the difference in the nuance in the 2 words, i can understand how it would be an indicator for grey area, but the other part i'm unsure what would there be to decide ?
