Status of 2.1?

- First Priority: set yourself minimal steps, game development is extra hard business
- Second Priority: Have fun
- Third Priority: Don't build a system or a framework, build a game. Most games don't have to be maintained 20 years.
- Fourth Priority: Money!

I'm currently engrossed in a few other games so it'll be exciting when I get an email announcing 2.1 has been released.
Re: Status of 2.1?
Well, Happy Anniversary Space Age
I thought to read something from the dev team about it, but maybe they forgot their own bday?

Re: Status of 2.1?
Actually most company where their goal become "make money" fall pretty fast (years). Money is a tool, not a goal, the goal of wube is to make great games, not money, money is just the tool society use to share richness. If you decrease quality, forget your true purpose and just want to make money you will loose everything, there is countless example of company who forget their have a purpose and go full money short term and they go bankrupt. Also, most company that fall are also just company that unfortunately lost their purpose because they become obsolete (technology shift, cultural change).
When you start a company, you don't start with "how to make money ?", you start with an idea to fill a need, you can also study the market and try to search for something missing or in short supply. No matter how much the peoples fail to understand this, its will always be true. Goal "make money", make no sense for society and is useless overall. Human doesn't need money, we need service, we need food, we need to fill our needs. Money is just oil to make the machinery works.
So put money as fourth priority make total sense, it's a priority, true, we can't totally forget it in the current world, but it should always be the last priority. Just don't go bankrupt, try to grow steady, don't grow too much, don't forget the true purpose of your enterprise (EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE OFC).

Re: Status of 2.1?
As I know, they do not plan any new content to 2.1.
Just some new features which was not added to 2.0.
Actually, it is pretty hard to add new content, as it requires much more work then even Space Age.
First of all, new major content should not be just "a new building" or "a new planet". It should be something new and advanced.
Space Age is based on vanilla and continues it. New content should be based on Space Age and continue it, so it definitely should be something outside planet.
But just a new few planets? No.
There is no space in this system for new planet. Create planet after end of system is too far and not logical.
So the only way is intergalactic technologies, like warp or star gate.
But again, some new planets on another side? No.
A good way is when you discover intergalactic technologies, you can found another civilization. May be few of them, and at least one of them already in Space. So it is not just a few new planets, but such things as Space battles and Planetary defence. And maybe diplomacy/trade/etc.
But I have no idea how much resources will take such extension.

Re: Status of 2.1?
And why would that be? It is freeby content we did not pay for. It could be anything from a screwdriver to a planet. If I remember correctly, factorio 1.0 got the spidertron as a freeby after release (among other stuff). Not on the scale of a planet, but a bit more than a new building. I would have called it new content.SaboteurKiev wrote: Mon Oct 27, 2025 3:34 pm As I know, they do not plan any new content to 2.1.

While I think that even just one planet would be quite a big addition and I don't think that is their plan (you are probably correct there), I would love to see another planet and there would be ample space in space.Space Age is based on vanilla and continues it. New content should be based on Space Age and continue it, so it definitely should be something outside planet.

There is no space in this system for new planet. Create planet after end of system is too far and not logical.
For example they could have us land on a remnant of the shattered planet and we could collect and reconnect other remnants with it to eventually build a bigger asteroid base. Or they could simply add another planet after the shattered planet. Our own star system was once thought to end with Pluto, now it seems there are a few dwarf planets even further out.
So the only way is intergalactic technologies, like warp or star gate.
