[2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
[2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
so I'd like to post my log here and look for some assistance on an issue that has plagued my more recent games. None of this ever happened before Space Age, and in the first few months of Space Age I never saw this either.
What happens:
During gameplay, the game freezes for a sec, then I get a window about an unexpected error and the game crashes with an offer to open the folder containing the log that I might post it here.
Version:
2.0.66
Reproducibility:
This is not a reproduce-able error, but some actions do make it more likely. If I am copying and pasting a part of my base to double up on production of some component or other, the game is more likely to crash while I'm trying to place the blueprint. The issue here and why I stop short of saying this is how you reproduce the error, is that this step is absolutely not needed to cause the game to crash. If I leave the game running for any significant length of time, I'll see a crash every about 2 hours. Its not really that consistent but I'd say that's about the average run time to see a crash.
Mod list:
These crashes occur even with no mods loaded at all. My current save only has a mod named "SimpleBotStart" and "even-distribution". I was tired of placing all my early game machines by hand. The other mods are elevated rails, base, quality and Space Age.
Attached log. This crash happens across saves, on deathworlds, off deathworlds, on nauvis mostly but I've had it crash elsewhere too. (Nauvis might just see more crashes because the game starts there.)

Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
The log does not show a crash, but what you describe is not consistent but completely random which suggests a hardware failure, if you provide a few logs with crashes it should be possible to determine. You are also using a raptor lake cpu, so make sure you are on the latest bios or it will destroy itself if it has not already.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
It contains : Received SIGSEGV. which I've seen in other logs on previous occasions. This seems to refer to an error in memory accessing, but I'm not tech savvy enough to know why its happening.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
The log does not show any context of the crash, likely a hardware problem, unless you find a way to reproduce it reliably.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
Ok. This hasn't been particularly helpful. Diagnostic tools seem to suggest that the hardware is working appropriately (Processor and memory at least)
If anyone has an idea about how I might further investigate this I would appreciate any help.

Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
You can post more logs with crashes, if they vary, it is definitively a hardware issue, but I have little doubt as is.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
Your CPU is from the Raptor Lake family. It may be affected by the known VMin Shift bug, which can cause permanent damage of the CPU.
Refer to this analysis: https://machaddr.substack.com/p/extensi ... the-raptor
Since you're experiencing crashes every few hours in Factorio, RMA the CPU under warranty and report the issue as constant instability in games.
If RMA isn't possible, update your motherboard BIOS to the latest version. This may reduce the severity of the problem by applying Intel's microcode fixes.

Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
It's reproduceable, not random. If you hold a large blueprint, say 50 machines or more, and move while trying to align it in the manner you wish to place it, it will crash. attached is another crash log, I cannot stress enough that this doesn't happen in any other program. Sure, no proof this is solely a factorio bug, but I don't get these issues anywhere else.

If you have a way to reliably reproduce it please provide a save file and steps to do so.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
Open the save file, on the toolbar, in the 9th slot is a blueprint that encodes a factory that produces low density structures. Select the blueprint, and wave it about. The crash should happen basically immediately.

I don't seem to be able to reproduce any issues in my testing:

Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
The actions you took there would cause a crash on my attempt.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
Being able to reproduce requires you to crash 10 times if you try 10 times and always at the exact same time, one time does not tell you anything. You crashes are random and not reproducible because your hardware is broken.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
I don't think you are understanding that I am trying to precise, that I AM getting a consistent crash. If I load up that save, 10 times in a row, and do the same action as done in the video provided by your colleague, I will crash 10 times in a row. It IS a consistent crash. Now It might still be a hardware issue, but it is consistent, and it ONLY happens in factorio. Now maybe factorio is doing something that is completely fine in healthy hardware and that this is evidence I've got unhealthy hardware that causes it to crash, but please stop telling me its not consistent. It IS consistent. It also happens in other ways, but if I needed to force it to happen the actions in that video would cause it to happen. I can cause it to happen, so it's consistent.
Re: [2.0.66] Crashes, consistent, across saves, with or without mods.
No it is not, it is 10 completely random crashes that have nothing to do with each other. You first crash was outside of factorio code, the second one was in circuit logic and the third is in graphics rendering.Jadow wrote: Sun Sep 28, 2025 5:20 pm I AM getting a consistent crash. Sounds like completely toasted Intel CPU, just like we all were saying in previous posts.
