[2.0.69] Construction bots don't fill items requests directly

Post by Aleksejs »

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Have an object (assembling machine, miner or other) in a logistics area. Place at least two construction robots in the roboport in that area.
  2. For example, you have an assembling machine. Choose a recipe and place a module into it, for example, a productivity module. To see the bug easier, make sure you don't have these modules available from elsewhere in the same logistics area.
  3. Cut the machine and paste in the same area. One bot will remove the module from the machine while the other will remove a machine and will place it onto a new spot. However, the first bot won't place module in the pasted machine. It will just hang in the air, holding that module.
The same problem exists if you have an object that requests those modules, and you remove the object that has those modules. However, if your character is in the same logistics area and in the character menu, you'll request those modules, bots will bring them to you. Then you can place them in the trash slot, and robots will pick them up and will place them into the object.

The bug affects assembling machines, miners, furnaces, chemical plants, centrifuges, science labs, beacons etc.

Expected behavior: Robots should spot requested modules and place them into objects if they hold these modules. It should be similar as with objects themselves. If you have one placed assembly machine and one ghost machine, then removing the first one, robot will place it where the ghost is.

This bug was not in the 1.x, I used this feature while playing 1.x. Confirmed that bug exists in 2.0.66 and 2.0.69, haven't checked the other versions.

This worked identical in 1.1.

Thanks for the report. In this case you have to have a logistic storage chest for them to put the items into temporarily. Construction robots were never programmed to be able to directly take an item from one entity and install it in another.

As a simplification, they always use the storage chest in the middle.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Thanks for the answer! I solved it by making the modules assembling machine to put those modules into the buffer chest, with output inserter working while there are less than 1k modules available in the logistics system, while the buffer chest itself requests for 2k modules. Not a perfect solution, but it works.
