I saw on YT how they farm legendary asteroids. So i build my own ship. It now has 248 time traveled (see the count on the sidebar) between nauvis and vulcanus. It "only" got 36x8 legendary aseroids. (Counted the belts). So: Let they run it over night? What do they do to get a lot of legendary?

Re: Question about farming legendary asteroids
- More asteroids! Try a different route which has more / larger Asteroids in it, farther out in the Solar System.
- More Speed! The faster you travel, the more asteroids you will encounter per Time.
- Solar Panels are only useful / mass-efficient for Nauvis-Vulcanus; your platform space (and therefore Weight, which decreases the Speed) is better used on machinery. It looks like you already have Nuclear Power started.

- Laser turrets are the worst choice for Asteroids, which have a large Resistance to that damage type. And they use a lot of power. Bullets, Rockets, and Railguns work great; ammo for all can be manufactured in space. Don't forget the Damage Upgrade researches.
- Higher Quality Collectors have more Arms, which will collect more Chunks (versus letting them splat uselessly against your Platform's bow).
- More Collectors! Most turrets can be spaced behind them; not between them. Quality Turrets have a higher range to compensate.
- Tangential: Chunks do not Stack; so Bulk/Stack inserters are a waste. Fast Inserters (blue) have the same Rotation speed.
Re: Question about farming legendary asteroids
When bootstrapping, use less crushers with better quality modules and dynamically change the recipe. For example, if you only have 2 legendary quality 3s, you should use them in one crusher and make it handle all the epic recipes, or even the rare ones.

Re: Question about farming legendary asteroids
The Lasers are intentional that I don't use asteroids for ammo. I remember, as I started that ship I let it run many times but I haven't had legendary science unlocked.
Build a second farmer ship. Let's see how it develops

Re: Question about farming legendary asteroids
I am unsure, how to process the legendary asteroids. One things seems clear: Crack them in space into ores, calcite, ice, carbon and sulfur. I guess its best to send this to a planet.
Would like to use foundries, but fluids lack quality. The ice, just process it into water. The rest: Obviously plates, coal and then legendary circuits and plastic. But plastic needs petroleum which lacks quality ...
As it is low volume: Maybe a sushi belt? I would like to avoid bots here as they could mess it up....
Any hints would be welcome

Re: Question about farming legendary asteroids
- Carbonic Asteroids make Carbon & Sulfur - useful for Coal Synthesis, Explosives, and Plastic.
- Metallic Asteroids can be smelted directly Iron/Copper in a Furnace; no point in using the Foundry recipes with high-grade Inputs since Liquids "reset" to Normal quality. You can get Unlimited Liquid Iron/Copper on Vulcanus and use Recyelers to upgrade the Plates to Legendary.
- Oxide Asteroids are not as useful - I usually reprocess these to Metallic/Carbonic. Ice is a key component of Space & Cryogenic Science. Calcite can be used in Artillery shells, but those turrets do not auto-target Asteroids.

Metal you can convert to iron only and smelt these, Then use legendary plastic to craft legendary LDS and then just scrap those to get steel and copper.
Calcite is for getting legendary stones which you can make bricks and concrete out of.

Re: Question about farming legendary asteroids
Legendary asteroids are going to benefit greatly from asteroid productivity. On paper, the amount of asteroids you get is going to be pretty small and if you benchmark it you won't be much better off for going for that method instead of say, a mill strategy with a really good productivity bonus from a building.
But if you start stacking on research benefits, you're going to start to see a rate of return on iron that justifies it for iron production. It will do very interesting things to calcite production too. And the general spread of resources might be inferior to making direct facilities for the items, but they're all going to be in one place and require one main mechanical advantage.
You also have to optimize the entire system. There's some things like better modules that make it make more sense. Faster quality crushers of any kind will let you process more material and in less space. More productive modules in the asteroid processing and intermediate stages will produce a greater volume of material.
